Drug Education & Rehabilitation

VoS have developed a drug education programme which it delivers to upper Secondary school classes in both rural and urban schools. One of the most tragic consequences of street life is drug and alcohol addiction which is prevalent amongst street children. VoS aims to prevent drug use and abuse by highlighting the consequences of drug use to children and youths in the schools and communities.

Outreach work, Rehabilitation & Counselling

VoS’s Rehabilitation programme is two fold. The first step is outreach work with children who live or work on the street. Through VoS’s outreach work it is able to build a bond with street children and identify their needs. Outreach work forms an important role in building relationships with these children and providing them with essential information on how to minimise the risks of street life and what services they may be able to access including the VoS Counselling Centre.
At the counselling centre psychological preparation and assessment  of the children begins. This includes 1:1 counselling sessions and behaviour changing classes on learnt behaviours and habits from living or working on the street. An in-depth assessment of the child’s present and future needs is also made.  Once a profile of the child is completed, VoS in collaboration with the Child Protection Office and other NGOS refers the child to other rehabilitation and child care services where the child can continue their rehabilitation and reintegration back into society.

The centre also provides the children with a secure environment to help them rehabilitate. They are provided with food, accommodation and basic essentials such as toiletries and clothing. The children have an opportunity to learn new skills and participate in recreation, health and motivation sessions as well as in formal or non formal education.

VoS are launching a rehabilitation centre in the communities with a vision to take the children who are part of the VoS’s programme out of substance addiction. The rehabilitation centre will be a platform for children to rehabilitate and reintegrate back into society under the continued support of VoS.
